Supporting employers

Supporting NSW frontline employers

We’ve been resolving public sector injury claims for over 20 years.

We understand the unique challenges you face in keeping NSW running. Each year, we help government employers manage workers compensation claims across various sectors – from emergency services to office teams.

With over 15 years’ experience managing personal injury claims for emergency services agencies, we know what it takes to keep you moving. Through early intervention and best-practice injury management, we help you achieve the best possible outcomes with minimal disruption. Our experienced mobile case managers oversee medical approvals so claims progress quickly, while we work with you to support your teams back into the workplace.

Through the Mutual Benefits Program, we proactively reduce injury risks in the sector and provide tailored support to frontline workers so you can keep delivering the vital services NSW relies on. This includes a $5 million investment in emergency services claim and injury management innovations, technology, and research partnerships – to help drive better outcomes and keep your teams safe and operational.

Tailored services to support our frontline in NSW

Our claims model has been refined using insights from our Australia-wide exposure, and over 15 years’ experience working with first responders. In addition to specialist roles like return to work specialists, mental health specialists and legal specialists, our service model is propelled by innovations that enhance the recovery process and empower our staff to deliver claims management activity which really makes a difference.

Mobile case management

Our newly introduced team of mobile case managers are empowered to make on-the-spot decisions to facilitate faster medical treatment. Travelling across NSW, they work with employers, workers and their treating health practitioners to help a worker return to work sooner.

Tailored injury claim pathways

Our years of experience and intimate knowledge of the risks associated with frontline workers has enabled us to design tailored claim pathways. We customise our claims management approach to address the specific needs of emergency services workers and ensure they have the right support and services along the way.

Career case management

Given the nature of injuries and illness across emergency services, we know that not all workers will return to their pre-injury duties. We offer a proactive and supportive approach to career change or medical retirement that recognises a uniformed career and years of service.

Biopsychosocial and risk screening tool

Our tool helps case managers identify biopsychosocial risks that could delay recovery. Integrated into our claims system, it uses automation and workflows to provide a holistic view across medical, mental health, social, and occupational factors. The profiling score guides support levels and actions to improve claim outcomes.

The death of manual handling training: What can we learn and unlearn from Olympic lifters

This session challenges the long held belief that “how to lift” training prevents injuries. Despite its popularity, safety regulators and research show it’s ineffective and can even cause harm. Together we’ll unpack why technique isn’t the protective factor many assume, explore what the evidence actually says, and examine real world case studies. We’ll also look at sensor technologies, lifting aids, and other factors that genuinely influence safe manual handling.
