Looking after people is what we do. That’s why we support initiatives that directly help the communities and workplaces we serve.
We sponsor events and partner with organisations that commit to improving lives. It’s one of many ways we make a difference for workers and employers across Australia.
We acknowledge the adverse impacts that human activity can impose on the environment and recognise that action is needed to prevent further degradation of those natural systems.
EML actively engages in the City Switch environmental programs run by the city councils in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. We play a significant role in the sustainability community in each city, regularly presenting at City Switch seminars and participating in workshops and thought leadership discussions.
In 2023, for the fourth time since 2017, City Switch formally recognised EML for our outstanding sustainability efforts in these cities.
We are proud that our tenancies have achieved impressive NABERS ratings, reflecting our commitment to energy efficiency. NABERS ratings are third-party assessments that measure a tenancy’s energy efficiency, like the star ratings on household appliances.
The NABERS scale ranges from 1 star (low efficiency) to 6 stars (exceptional efficiency). We are pleased to report the latest ratings for some of our larger tenancies:
Honeysuckle Drive, Newcastle: 5.5 stars
Parramatta: 5.5 stars
George Street: 6 stars
We are excited to announce a significant transformation in our energy sourcing strategy for all EML tenancies across Australia.
Through a Power Purchase Agreement facilitated by the Australian Hoteliers Association, our partners in Hospitality Industry Insurance (HII), we have secured a nine year contract with Iberdrola for 100% renewable energy in New South Wales. Iberdrola operates numerous renewable energy sites nationwide, including the newly established Flyers Creek windfarm near Orange, NSW.
In alignment with EML's unwavering commitment to sustainability, we have extended our renewable energy contracts to cover all other states and the ACT. As of 1 January 2024, all EML tenancies will be powered exclusively by renewable energy.
Recycle Right, our innovative and gamified recycling training module, is part of our annual training program to bring recycling awareness in the office. Over 3,000 certified Recycling Rockstars have completed the module, equipping them with the knowledge to properly dispose of waste in the office,
