We’ve helped injured Australian workers get back on their feet for generations. We pioneered workers compensation in Australia in the early 1900s, to care for injured industrial workers when no one else did. Now, over 115 years later, we’re still going strong, building on that legacy by leading the way in claims management, workplace safety, and recovery.

We give financial help to injured workers as Master Bakers Mutual.
1912
The Master Plumbers’ Mutual Indemnity Association Ltd is formed.
1914
The Master Carriers’ Mutual Indemnity Association Ltd is formed.
1926
We merge and lay the foundation for what’s now EML.
1987
We become a Managed Fund Insurer for WorkCover NSW (icare).
1995
We manage a $29M premium with 35 employees.
2006
We become the sole agent for WorkCover South Australia.
2010
We celebrate 100 years with 1,000 employees and $1B in premiums.
2016
We become WorkSafe Victoria’s newest agent, supporting Victorian workers.
2018
We help the ACT Government self insure its 22,000-strong workforce.
2021
We launch mobile case managers in NSW for in-person support.
2024
We reach a record $142M invested in the Mutual Benefits Program.
