NSW Police career transition support services

There are numerous options available to support you regardless of what stage in your rehabilitation you are at. Transitioning officers generally require support in line with one of the following pathways:  

Wellness support

Getting and staying well is about being in good health, connecting with family, being actively engaged in treatment and working towards having a healthy and fulfilling life.

Career transition support

Career transition support includes identifying transferrable skills, exploring education and training and identifying meaningful work options.

We have worked hard to identify quality support services that are fit for purpose regardless of which pathway you feel you are on.

EML Career Transition & Wellbeing Program 

EML’s Career Transition & Wellbeing Program was designed to assist individuals in transitioning to new employment while on claim or transitioning from claim. The program aims to help employees secure alternative employment using proven career transition strategies. 

Tailored to the individual’s specific career transition support needs, the program is delivered in modules, focusing on vocational exercises, job-seeking readiness, important personal transformation reflections, and individualised coach-guided, one-on-one sessions. Our team of experienced career coaches will assist you in making the journey a bit easier. 

The program enhances the skills and self-efficacy required for re-employment or work trials, including improving personal branding, constructing and/or transforming resumes and cover letters, navigating job boards, identifying suitable job options, interviewing techniques and practices, injury disclosure, networking, and negotiating salaries.  

Available services: 

  • One-on-one career coaching: Receive personalised support from a dedicated coach to assist with career exploration, guidance, and coaching conversations. 
  • Behavioural tools: Utilise behavioural assessments to identify new career pathways. 
  • Professional writing services: Get expertly crafted resumes, cover letters, and guidance on addressing selection criteria. 
  • Job search strategies: Learn effective job search techniques, employer profiling, and receive essential job-seeking support. 
  • Interview preparation: Participate in mock interviews tailored to various types of interviews.

The Growing Through Transition Workshops are a whole day workshop designed to provide accurate information about transitioning to life after the NSW Police Force (NSWPF)  for police officers who are medically retiring from the organisation. The program aims to provide a sense of direction, control, hope and belief for the future. 

The workshop is facilitated by Craig Semple, who has 25 years of experience as a Detective Sergeant in the NSWPF. He medically retired in 2013 due to psychological injury and created a workshop to support similar individuals through the medical retirement journey.

Exercise rehab 

Guardian Exercise Rehabilitation are a team of vibrant professionals with the utmost standard of care delivered to all clientele, and an unwavering level of exceptional service provided to all customers and stakeholders.

Health at Home 

Health at Home is a program designed to offer support following an inpatient stay in hospital. The aim of the program is to make sure that when discharged from hospital, the right support is provided to ensure everything needed is available to allow you to return to health, return to life and engage back in your community. 

  • Our experienced Health at Home consultants engage with you, and your treatment team, to understand all the goals of discharge 
  • Support provided to you and your support network, in ensuring the goals are achievable and understanding the individual needs 
  • Collaborative support through treatment team, engaging you and your chosen support network 
  • Development of a Discharge Action Plan to ensure a clear pathway for your return home and back to health 
  • Weekly support to encourage returning to health at home, and encouraging development of personal routine and engagement in the community.

Engage Transitional Services is a voluntary support program designed for NSW Police Officers who are transitioning or who have transitioned from the Force. 

This service recognises that periods of transition are challenging and is designed to complement existing treatment plans and assist members to identify and work towards important and meaningful life goals. 

A dedicated Procare allied health consultant will collaborate with each member to develop holistic goals aligned with their values, interests and will support the member to achieve these goals
