How David got back to his beloved horses

Stable hand David Wrout suffered a serious spinal cord injury and wondered what his future would be.

David was paralysed and placed in a halo (a medical device used to stabilise the cervical spine after traumatic injuries to the neck) for eight weeks.

After months at a rehabilitation centre, David regained sufficient mobility to be able to return to work just five months after his injury.

David’s perseverance to recover and return to work was recognised through winning the 2022 Worker Return to Work Achievement Award, presented by WorkSafe Victoria.

On winning the award, David says:

“It’s recognition for my determination to get back to work and for my employer, for their support. Mandi and Ash from EML were absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t have been in better hands. They were always working on my behalf to help me recover.”
