The Excellence in Personal Injury and Disability Management Awards recognises the contribution individuals and teams have made within the personal injury industry – showcasing innovation, excellence in customer service and outstanding leadership.
We are proud to have Matthew Vickers representing EML as one of our two finalists in the Outstanding Leadership category for the PIEF 2025 Awards.
Matthew is the General Manager SME & Specialty at EML, where he leads the small and medium employer and specialty claims portfolio, under a service provider arrangement with icare. Matthew also leads the pre-1987 Insurer Guarantee Fund claims portfolio under a service provider arrangement with SIRA, and EML’s own pre-1987 underwritten claims portfolio. In addition to this, Matthew oversees some of the broader EML Support Services, including Customer Care, Business Performance, and Actuarial Services.

Supporting the next generation of industry professionals
Known as a passionate advocate for frontline claims professionals and with a deep commitment to developing people both personally and professionally, Matthew has a well-earned reputation for fostering talent and developing leaders. He has certainly done so since joining EML in 2016 and prior to that in his roles at Coal Services, WorkCover NSW, GIO and Allianz.
‘I’ve worked for Matt for six years and he’s made a huge difference to my career. He’s steered us through good and tough times but always makes you feel like you’re in it together. With Matt, success isn’t about him, it’s about all of us.’ Salvatore Failla, Head of Support Services, EML NSW.'
Supporting our front-line teams to deliver outstanding service and compassionate care
One of Matthew’s passions is to design systems that allow case managers to focus on what really matters: helping people get their lives back. He has worked tirelessly, making use of his expertise in data analytics and legislation to collaborate with government, regulators and industry stakeholders to find ways to drive practical, outcome focused improvements to simplify overly complex aspects of our industry.
‘Matthew is an exceptional leader. Whether he’s appearing before a Parliamentary committee or a Monday morning team meeting, you can trust that he will be bringing his 25 years of industry experience, empathy and energy to improving the NSW workers compensation scheme – because it’s the right thing to do for workers, employers and over 900 people that he leads here at EML,’ Don Ferguson, CEO EML Management.
Congratulations, Matthew and we wish you all the best at the PIEF Awards Gala Dinner on the 27 of October.
