We’re proud to celebrate Mark Coyne, Executive Director at EML Group, as a finalist in the John Walsh Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual at the PIEF2025 Awards.

As EML Group’s CEO, Mark doubled the business’ size and expanded it into new personal injury markets. Now Executive Director, Mark continues to guide strategic claims management across some of the country’s largest and most complex personal injury schemes.

His leadership and influence have reshaped how schemes operate, claims teams are supported, and recovery is delivered. He collaborates with insurers, unions and government to ensure alignment and a shared purpose in a complex sector. His industry relationships are genuine, respected, and a key reason things move forward.

His work has driven system-wide change, bringing together traditionally opposing sides to create fairer, faster, and more consistent support for injured Australians and employers. At EML, he’s also known for something less common in leadership: knowing everyone’s names, understanding their roles, and ensuring they know their work matters.

A former PIEF Board member, Mark has also championed industry education and professional standards. He is widely respected not just for his expertise, but for his generosity, offering his time and insights to many in our industry. Inside EML, he’s known for something rare in leadership: knowing people’s names, understanding their roles, and making sure they know their work matters.

“I’ve worked with Mark for over 15 years and seen him lead through some of EML’s most defining moments. He’s always set a high bar for excellence, but what really stands out is his drive to make things better, whether it’s the schemes we operate in, the customers we support, or the people who make this industry what it is.” – Angus McCullagh, CEO, EML Solutions

As EML CEO, Mark introduced Mobile Case Managers into Victoria in 2016 and later in NSW, knowing from his sporting days how critical in-person intervention is to recovery. This approach is now industry best practice. He also championed low caseloads, giving claims teams the time and trust to focus on people, not process, improving outcomes and building the workforce that’s won EML a Great Place to Work three years running.

Congratulations to Mark and all the other finalists who will be recognised at the PIEF Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney on 27 October.
