EML’s Career Transition Services (CTS) initiative has been named a finalist in the Excellence in Injury and Disability Management (Return to Work / Community) category at the 2026 PIEF Excellence in Personal Injury and Disability Management Awards.
The nomination recognises EML’s work supporting people with injury or disability to achieve sustainable return-to-work and community outcomes, particularly across complex government and emergency services portfolios.
Our career transition service isn't simply about helping first responders find a new job. We provide hands on support in navigating career change, build confidence and create future careers beyond injury.

EML’s CTS teams provides early and personalised vocational support to employees where returning to their previous role may no longer be possible. The program helps people translate their skills, experience and capabilities into new career pathways.
The approach has delivered significant outcomes within NSW Police, supporting medically separated officers to navigate the challenges of transitioning from policing into civilian employment.
Over the past four years, the CTS teams have supported more than 600 employees nationally, with placement rates across portfolios ranging from 53-66%.
The CTS model was developed to address the unique cultural, psychological and practical barriers that can impact career transition for uniformed workers. By embedding vocational expertise within EML, the team can provide early, trust-led support tailored to each person’s circumstances.
This includes career exploration, training pathways, transferable skills assessment, labour market analysis, job search strategies, employer engagement and interview coaching.
Over six years, the model has evolved and become embedded within EML’s claims management approach, strengthening early intervention while building capability through close collaboration between Career Transition Specialists and claims teams.
The program’s success has also attracted government attention, with the CTS team invited to Parliament House in May 2026 to share frontline insights into the barriers facing injured and medically separated workers and discuss opportunities for a broader approach to cross-agency redeployment.
The recognition reflects EML’s commitment to helping people get their lives back by creating sustainable pathways to work, community and what comes next.
We’re proud to see our Career Transition Services team recognised for the impact of their work and congratulate everyone involved in delivering better outcomes for people navigating complex career transitions.
