EML has been offering claims management solutions via our specialised insurance offering since 2008. Specialised insurance provides a bespoke solution that addresses the distinctive workplace environments, and the unique roles, risks and challenges faced by workers and businesses in a specific industry.
As a specialised insurer we have greater autonomy over claims management and operating models. Our philosophy is centred around investing in highly skilled staff with allied health and industry experience and maintaining low caseloads.
This approach delivers faster return to work and in turn lower premiums for our clients, which is why we’ve sustained long-term, best-in-class outcomes.
Currently, specialised insurance exists only in NSW under the state’s workers compensation legislation. NSW has licensed specialised insurers for various industry sectors, including hospitality, pharmacies, childcare, coal mining, local councils, racing, and Catholic Church institutions.
We created Trinity Insurance in 2023, following Catholic Church Insurance’s (CCI’s) decision to cease offering workers compensation insurance in NSW. CCI endorsed Trinity Insurance’s entrance into the scheme and we now provide a specialised offering to the Catholic Church and its institutions in NSW. This tailored industry support helps Catholic organisations thrive by managing risk their workplace risk, thereby actively supporting the Church’s mission in pastoral, health, education, and welfare work.
We created Hospitality Employers Mutual Limited in 2008 to provide a solution, giving NSW hotels and clubs an industry-owned workers compensation scheme provider. In 2023, we re-branded to Hospitality Industry Insurance (HII). This change consolidated our two trading names, Hotel Employers Mutual (HEM) and Club Employers Mutual (CEM), into a single identity designed to simplify operations to enable us to better serve our customers. Our purpose remains the same – to provide specialist worker compensation support to the industry.
Our case managers have allied health backgrounds. Engagement scores for our specialised case managers are higher than industry average.
Lower caseloads allow staff to proactively support injured workers, whilst specialist roles and medical professionals are embedded within the model to improve recovery outcomes.
Case managers are trained on the specifics of the industry allowing a tailored communication approach for workers and employers. Automation processes streamline workflows and reduces administrative burden for customers.
