Role of the RTW Coordinator (Endorsed by WorkSafe Victoria)

This 2-day course has been developed by WorkSafe Victoria and assists participants meet the “competency” requirement of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013. The course covers the obligations of employers and workers as well as an overview of the compensation scheme and the functions of the Authority and self-insurers under the Act. Participants will be provided the information and skills to support their employer facilitate the successful RTW of injured workers, including:

  • How to coordinate the RTW of an injured worker and how to develop, implement and monitor effective RTW plans;
  • The importance of RTW goals and measuring the effectiveness of RTW plans;
  • How to communicate effectively with the injured worker, their treating health practitioner and others involved in the RTW process

RTW Coordinators nominated and appointed for the purpose of meeting the employer’s obligations under the Act.

Advanced WorkCover and Return to Work Management
This 2-day course has been designed to improve the knowledge and skills of experienced RTW Coordinators or for HR Professionals involved in injury management at your workplace.

Facilitated as a work-shop, participants are encouraged to discuss their own “complex” cases and work through strategies to manage these in consultation with the claims and injury management professionals within your WorkCover Agent ensuring the best outcomes for the injured worker and your workplace. Amongst other things, the course will cover:

  • Understanding the initial liability process
  • Mental injury claims arising from “reasonable management action”
  • Risk profiling for Return to Work Management including premium considerations
  • The dispute resolution process – getting the best outcomes

It is a pre-requisite that participants have completed the 2-day WorkSafe endorsed course and have at least 6 months experience in the role.

Health and Safety Representative Training
This five day course is designed to provide Health and Safety Representatives and Deputy Health and Safety Representatives with the necessary knowledge to allow them to apply the essential consultative role within the workplace. The course is to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a health & safety representative. The course involves written and practical exercises to better understand the complexities of health and safety.

Health and Safety Representative Refresher
This refresher course provides attendees with an opportunity to revisit the key aspects of the initial five day Health and Safety Representative training. Health and Safety Representatives and Deputy Health and Safety Representatives who have completed the initial course are also entitled to complete the one day refresher training for each year they remain in office.

Manual Handling

This course provides participants with an understanding of best practice manual handling techniques and how to engage the workforce to create a proactively safe workplace.

Psychological Conditions in Workers Compensation
Psychological conditions are becoming more and more common. The objective of this session is to provide an overview of common workplace psychological injuries, the early identification, treatment and Recover at Work process. Participants will also be provided with strategies for minimising risk of psychological conditions in the workplace.

Managing an Ageing Workforce
With Australia’s workforce ageing and approaching retirement, employers need to implement strategies to retain, recruit and support mature workers. This course is designed to provide an overview of Australia’s current and future workforce demographics as well as describing the challenges and practical strategies for managing the ageing workforce.

Managing Young Workers
Young workers aged 15-24 are more likely to be injured at work than any other age group in Victoria, and their injuries are more likely to require hospitalisation. This session aims to educate employers about risks young people face in the workplace, and how to prevent injuries from occurring.

OHS Risk Management for Managers and Supervisors
